I just retired from the military so my question is this, how much is does my pay and benefits play into being considered for a job, I've applied to God knows how many jobs with no luck? Thanks

Hi Thomas: Sorry to hear you've been having a tough time finding a job! Have you been applying to companies that are committed to hiring veterans? Many employers have their own applications for veterans, so if you're not using this specific employment path, your application may be getting lost in the crowd. Employers like Starbucks, Walmart, etc all have their own applications for veterans. Re-focus your job search by looking for employers with veteran-hiring initiatives - your chances of getting a job will definitely go up!

Hey Thomas,
I've learned there's a 5 step issue with getting a job:
Is my resume written correctly? (if not, write the resume better. Here is the video that I use to write my resume: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0fjkKCsM1w)
Am i sending resume to the right person? Is the hiring mananger looking at my resume? (if not, call the Hiring Manager to make sure they recieved your resume)
Am I getting enough phone interviews? (If not, read this book, borrow it from the library or buy it: How to ace your phone interview by peggy McKee)
Am I failing the face-to-face interviews? (if you are doing bad on face-to-face interviews, read this Guide by a recuiter on how to do well on face-to face interviews: https://michaelspiro.wordpress.com/2010/03/09/face-to-face-interviews-secrets-tricks-and-tips/)

Have you considered a job with the TSA (Trans Security Administration)? I attended a job fair last week and learned that they pull a significant amount of their new hires from experienced veterans. Full & P/T hiring happening right now. Look into it.
