Are there any long-term effects of the COVID-19 vaccine? Serious side effects that could cause a long-term health problem are extremely unlikely following any vaccination, including COVID-19 vaccination. So far the known effects of the vaccine are far less than the known effects of getting the disease. Pfizer and Moderna are mRNA vaccines, so they use messenger RNA to send the ingredients to the right areas of your body to create immunity to the virus. No vaccines in use in the U.S. have any live virus or other ingredients which tend to cause bad reactions with some other vaccines historically. While the vaccines have not been around long term, we have effectively run the world’s largest field test on these vaccines. Bad reactions have been extraordinarily few. In my view, it is just smarter to take the vaccine, and the booster. Unfortunately, people who will not get vaccinated are providing the virus opportunities to replicate AND MUTATE. Because of those mutations, we may need regular boosters in the near term. There is a medicine (pill) that will treat CoVID, early in the disease progression, so deaths may come down. The vast majority of hospitalizations and deaths are happening to unvaccinated people. Vaccinated people can get CoVID if exposed to certain variants, but their level of hospitalization and death is extremely low.
