How long after starting a new job should you expect a raise ?

You dont enter a job expecting a raise beyond what you agreed to during your interview ad was communicated to you. Any merit raises are due to your performance and contributions to the company.

I had to wait a year and the max was 4% of what I was making

Depends on the company really, some do it after your probation period other so raises every 6mo or annually.

It should be discussed when hired usually 60 days or before or later depending on job.

After a year on the job, your supervisor and HR will evaluate your performance and productivity as well.

Too soon. Way too sooon

Better ask that BEFORE you take the job. Your training period should be clear before you sign your work agreement. As should the timing for future evaluations and raises. Ask questions and compare answers from one prospective employer with those of others. You are interviewing them as much as they are interviewing you. Especially in this job market where there are two job openings for everyone who is job hunting, you should let the employers know they are being compared to one another for the OPPORTUNITY to hire you. It may get them thinking that the terms of your employment could be improved if they want to snag you before some other employer does.

90 days or so

If your really efficient then 2 months
That information should be given or asked on interview. Usually between after. Probation and first evaluation90 and 180. Days
