Long hours, a lot of waiting, must love to drive at night and wait during the day to load, unload or get your next load. Stand in line for a shower at truck stop. Hard to find some where to park. Hitch cost of food. Backing up your log book because your dispatcher says you need to in order to get another load

As a truck driver be prepared to: conduct maintenance and inspection daily, during, and after a days work. Be prepared, depending on type of trucking, to tie down loads, sweep out trailers, open trailer doors, and secure trailer doors. Be prepared to manage physical paperwork such as BOLs and Personal information such as Physical. Be knowledgeable on pertinent road and driver regulations. Be prepared to sleep in a sleeper, be prepared to plan fuel stops and rest locations with back ups. Be prepared to spend money at all times to include substantial amounts. Have your exit plan as driving is not a forever career with retirement.

As a Truck Driver, you would be responsible for operating a truck to transport goods and materials over short or long distances. Your duties would include loading and unloading cargo, following safety regulations, maintaining logs, inspecting the truck for mechanical issues, and delivering items on time. If you in the oil field as support or direct support to rigs you will be looking at 70 to 80 hours a week no home life and alot of location hold times. The pay is fantastic but the work is hard. Vac trucks are paid well, make sure you get hourly pay and not per load nonsense. Remember anytime your in the seat your being paid and hold time pay.

It depends on what you are hauling. I haul fuel so my duties are different from a truck driver that hauls containers. But I would say safety and navigating are common duties for all truck drivers.
