Many companies are using this time to clean house for a variety of reasons, some listed here. I am sure there are companies whose bottom line is hurting and have to reduce the workforce, but many companies are just trying to save some additional money cus they were to make 456mil, but are only going to make 442mil.

So they will take this opportunity of reducing the workforce, laying off those who make a higher salary, have outgrown their position, or became complacent in their job, or jut arent friends with the manager who selects who has to go.

This is the perfect opportunity for companies to do this to not only save revenue and higher cheaper employees for the position, but to take advantage of some programs that are availabel to them during the crisis without any reprecussions from employees because no one can really fight the companies explanation as the reason is cus of the Pandemic.

Only good thing is the position is furloughed and not just eliminated by a reduction in work force cus of the Pandemic. That means the employee has a better chance of being brought back even though its not guaranteed. But just watch, once there is something available where companies will get benefits by bringing back workers they supposedly had to let go, many will be getting some calls.

Companies only care about the $$$$$.

It means they don't care to discuss the real reason for dropping employees. Have seen this happen when some people out credentialed themselves from the job.

Earned a degree - got fired basically without a termination strike.

Maud Appiah when this happens it is because an employee was either problematic or not performing. In my experience laying off is mutually beneficial for both the employee and the company. The company avoids a law suit and the employee not only leaves with dignity but is eligible for unemployment. The company then can open the door for an employee that is willing to perform to the best of their ability and who is not as problematic. The former employee is now free to accept unemployment benefits and hopefully find either a more suitable job or an employer that's more accepting of under performers and problematic members of their staff.

Sounds like you’ve been laid off without severance.

It means that the people they had there previously sucked at their job and took this opportunity to hire someone who knows what their doing.
