Cashier at Sephora

What are good jobs for people that want to get out of food service?

I've been a server and cashier for way too long and want to get into another industry, but don't know where to start. What are some better paying jobs that are possible for a career change? I've managed my restaurant for the past year.

Hi, I think the thing to consider is not the field in which you have been working, but what skills and experience you have obtained from your employment. First, you mentioned server/cashier, so you could put your experience working in a fast-paced, customer-first environment has allowed you to have experience handling sometimes difficult customer requests and allowed you to utilize your friendly face-to-face demeanor to solve problems in a fast-paced environment and to think on your feet. Customer service jobs are a great way to broaden those skills, and they transfer well to other industries that may not be food related at all. Also, your experience as a cashier means you may be proficient using point-of-sale (POS) software and handling money and using mathematical abilities accurately. Try to focus on the experience and skills instead of exactly how you applied them but how they can transfer well to other positions/industries you may be interested in. I would say you work well in a team environment, and you can adapt to change and quickly and efficiently work well under pressure. Maybe you can say you are dependable and reliable and will bring a positive attitude, etc. I hope this helps your mindset so you can identify your strengths to a new potential employer. Another idea is to try a legitimate, trustworthy recruiting/staffing company to assist you in ways you may not have considered. Good luck!

Nora, I encourage you to take an interests and skills test. It is free online and will help you to figure out your likes, dislikes and narrow down where to begin your search. Next, reach out to your local workforce/employment agency. The place where the city/state job boards are located. There are people in there who can help you refresh your resume and maybe even acquire some new skill training. Don't just run after the money. All money is not good money. Do your diligence. Ask God for wisdom. Trust His leadership.

Warehouse Associate at Blue Apron

It depends on your physical capabilities and skills. Cashier and server might be more limited to retail or commission based sales.if you have a manager title on your job history that opens up many more opportunities like administrative, ops manager, supervisor roles, etc. You can work in banking if u have clean record. Entry level warehousing pays a lot but u work overtime and it wears on your body. U can learn new skills free online too
