I am attempting to change the industry that I am in, and I feel that my current job title may be hindering me. My current title is VP, I want to leave that part off, is that alright?

I am attempting to change industries and I want to drop my job title, I am VP but I think that title is hindering my search. So is it acceptable to leave the VP part of the job off?

I wouldn't drop the title although some employers will want to know why your interested in the change. Titles are immediate skill indicators and as a VP your a leader and that's a transferrable skill into any industry.

I would suggest leaving the title on, but add some information to your resume, cover letter, or both. On your resume, explain - in a line or two - what you're interested in doing next, why you want to take a new direction and how you can contribute to the new role/industry. A summary at the top of your resume would work - you can even use some of the same language in the subject line of your email (it should be THAT short). Provide a longer and more thorough explanation in your cover letter. Don't change your title, as you don't want to be seen as someone who misrepresents herself.

Good luck & let us know if you have any other questions! Marijoy
