Should I??

I started working for Toys R Us practically right out of high school and it's the only job I have had other than some part-time landscaping work with my bother in law. I am thinking now with the closing I should go to college. It's time to get my ass in gear! I have some money saved, but it might be tough without a job. I want to go full time. What do you guys think? Is college even worth it these days? I miss my co-worker, Sandy, she always gave the best advice.

Where are you applying?

Now that the jobs at Toys R Us are at the end of their journey where is everyone going now? A few folks at my store are headed to work at Walmart. I applied for a management position over there but so far not so good. Any other good spots for those of us who have worked in retail for a very, very long while? Hmm, where else to apply? What to do?

My aunt lost her job

She was working at Toys R Us for like 5 years as a stocker so she was pretty sad when it closed. We all take job security for granted until it's gone. She applied to Target, Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot, even Mc Donalds but ended up getting a job at Amazon with pretty good pay too. She starts soon and I am excited for her. Don't ever give up!!! Good things are coming for you.

Anyone have crazy Toys R Us stories???

I would love to hear some stories! I loved my job, but during my time there I had some doozies! Some parents would sort of forget that their kids were in a store. It's like we became the babysitters or somethin. Well one time this kid was bouncing this ball pretty darn hard. I am watching it climb higher and higher and getting more and more nervous. I ask him to bounce the ball a little nicer and he reacts by slamming it even harder. Well it goes all the way up and smacks the light and the bulb shatters everywhere. The kid cried but he was ok, but I ended up with some stitches that day. Make sure to watch your kids ladies and gents!

I know what you mean my 12 years working for toys r us is coming to an end. I don't know what to do, I pay my bills by myself and I have 3 boys.. it is really hard to swallow when you have, been working for a great company that brought so much joy to children's faces that the people you work with are not just co workers they are family.. and we all have been so loyal to toys r us it's going to be really hard to say goodbye..

Jobseekers are Salespeople Too

Sad to see Toys R Us go. There are real people with real situations left in the wake. For those looking for a new job, no matter what your profession was, your now a salesperson. You must sell employers on yourself and the solution you offer. Successful salespeople keep track of opportunities using a CRM (Contact Relationship Manager), and you should as well. If you're interested I'm happy to set you up free of charge. I also put together a JobSeeker ToolKit to assist people in transition. I've been unemployed and understand how difficult it can be to find work these days. If you would like my help simply shoot me a message with your email address and I'll do all I can. - K.D.

I hid the toys

Every Saturday morning, bright and early at 9:00 (we opened at 9:30), there was this one toy collector who would drive up, take the closest parking spot (which ended up being an expectant mom's spot), and would wait until we opened. Then he would rush in and grab as many things as he could get his hands on. He openly admitted to us that he just bought this stuff to collect, then eventually sell on Ebay for a higher price. It got to the point where he grabbed a hard to find doll in front of this little girl and her mom who wanted it, and told them, TOO bad that's life! The little girl had tears and I wanted to deck this man, but I knew he hadn't technically done anything wrong other than being ungentlemanly.

From that moment on I ended up taking some of the rarer items every morning once we unloaded the truck and stashing them away until he came and left so parents could buy them for their children. We also told him if he wanted to ever park his car in that parking space again he had better be pregnant.

Geez I really will miss it there.
