Beware not all non-profit are the same!

Do your research before giving your time and money to a non-profit. Thank you for wanting to volunteer and give your time to help others. Just be careful how much money really goes to helping others and how much goes to helping the CEO. (note: This chart was from online. Check with each charity individually to verify amount of each dollar given directly to those in need).

Good Morning! Don't let a past mistake hold you back!

It's a new week and it's time for a fresh start. I see so many comments about members being afraid to apply for jobs because of negative past experience. Almost everyone has had a job that didn't work out. If you haven't then you are lucky. Be truthful on your application, but don't write anything negative about a former employer. Be prepared at the interview to explain the situation and how you have learned from it and moved on. You can turn a negative into a positive by showing you have learned and know how to correct the problem.

Your time is more Valuable than money!

Yes, you are looking for a job or a better job. You don't have extra money to give away right now.... but you may have more time. Here is a secret...your time is just as valuable. Many programs need volunteers everyday. Serve a meal, work at a food bank, volunteer at the Human Society, spend time with an elderly neighbor. Plus, being active in your community looks great on a resume!

Volunteer at home in you pajamas! Become a "Virtual Volunteer"

Do you want to volunteer but don't have a lot of free time? Think about being a Virtual Volunteer. Yes, there is such a thing! Volunteer in your pajamas. You can make a difference from the comfort of your own home. You can write articles, graphic arts, answer emails, promote social media, help during large emergencies and more. A great place to start is The Red Cross. Even smaller non-profits can benefit from your help.
