I understand why anyone previously fired would have to meet with manager to discuss getting re-hired. Guidelines, compromises, and assurances need to be discussed around the original termination in order to avoid any future grievances.

I would consider myself very lucky if asked to meet with manager to re-negotiate re-hiring after termination. I've never heard of anyone who's gone through that experience.

I left when my new manager informed me that she'd put my doctor's note in my file but it wouldn't excuse my absence when there was no notice that they wouldn't be accepted anymore and I am not sure if she is even allowed to do that. She also told me that even tho my doctor recommends that I move to a less stressful department due to a stress-induced heart problem I cannot move for a year and I had been trying to for over a month already.
