Good evening everyone, I am Kiersten Carlton. I just joined in a group today for people with disabilities. This is my first post or conversation in the group All Things Disability. Through out my life I have had some disabilities, such as a speech impairment, learning disability, and in my adult life I was diagnosis with bipolar one disorder, along with going through two ankle surgeries one on each ankle. After going through the two surgeries... see more

I'm on the autism spectrum. I'm trying to find something in data entry or clerical work, but many of the jobs I'm seeing require experience, and I don't have any. I'm willing to do on-the-job training or a job shadow. I don't have much of a professional network. That means I don't know a lot of people who could introduce me to people who can help me out.

No worries Andrew Young ! The man who installed our security system in our home has Autism and was chatting with my... see more

Hi! I am currently participating in the Ticket To Work Program to maintain employment and get off of Social Security Disability Insurance. I don't have any limitations and will take any job into consideration. I learn very fast. I have good communication skills and I love people. I don't have much experience but I will do any training necessary.

I applied for a position and was given a date of hire but when tested for Drugs I told them that I was on prescription drugs due to my disability. The next day I was told they had a freeze on their hiring. I am very disappointed in how they discriminate towards disabled people.

Ur gonna get that alot of times some places will look at u kinda funny bc if they hire someone who has to survive... see more

I disclose my disability of being bipolar and chronic pain when asked on the applications if I have a disability I say yes. During a phone interview I don't disclose anything but do people suggest that I disclose that I have a disability during the phone interview hoping that would give me an edge over other applicants because of the benefits they can get from the government. I've been fully employed during my disability so I have a great work... see more

I have recently redone my whole profile. So, please tell me your thoughts as you look at it as your thoughts will help me to know how a future employer may perceive me and that's something I need to know. What is the first thing that hits you as you read my profile? Is there anything you think I should add that I have not yet added? How do you perceive me as a person and as a worker from reading my profile? Please tell me any and all thoughts and... see more

Hi! This is my first post so bear with me if I stumble.
I am newly disabled. I was struck with a debilitating condition and had to stop working (luckily, I had a disability benefit with my employer for a bit). During my leave, I had an experimental surgery that improved my condition by about 50-60%, enough to have me contemplate a return to work.

So my question: not wanting to lead with my disability, how do I account for the 4 year gap on... see more
