The Auto Damage Trainee experience at GEICO:
As a auto damage trainee, you go through an extensive 12 week training program that’s based in one of two state locations: Virginia or New Jersey. During this time, you learn about the mechanics behind assessing minor or major vehicle damages. When you return to the location where you want to work, you start building experience. Some of the skills you learn include how to estimate repair costs, negotiating equitable settlements, and issuing payments (just to name a few!). If all goes well, you can become a full time auto damage adjuster within six month to a year. Your office is the company car!

Tips from Hiring Manager: How to Start an Auto-Technician Career with No Experience
A good starting point for someone with no practical or theoretical experience would be acquiring an entry-level technician position with a ‘quick lube’ service station. These jobs provide formal automotive technician training in general maintenance (oil change, fluid checks, fuses, tire pressure, filters, etc) and give candidates exposure to the auto service environment. This is also a good opportunity to become familiar with and begin purchasing the tools needed to perform the job. Technicians need to own their own tools before job hunting.
