After a job fair=Thank You notes!

Jobcasers, I heard the Urban League Job Fair was awesome! I can’t wait to hear what interviews & offers come from the day. Reminder: Take all of those business cards/contact information & sit down right now to write your TY notes. (Do it now before you forget details about the company/representatives.) TY notes don’t need to be long – a quick paragraph thanking the person for their time, mention something you remember discussing, express your interest in the company/position, and give them your contact information (again). Good luck!

Chicago Job Fair Follow-up

So you rolled through the job fair like a pro, rocked your elevator pitch and left with a deck of business cards from various company reps. Now what?

The job fair was actually just the first step in a longer process. You’ve gotten their attention, now turn that awesome first impression into a consistent pattern of professional, proactive behavior.

So what are the steps?

  1. Apply for the jobs you want. If you haven’t already, seek out the open positions you discussed with the company reps and apply to them online. The company rep you spoke to may have loved you for the position, but he or she may not be in charge of hiring for that position. So to make sure you’re fully considered, go through the typical channels as well.

  2. Send a follow-up email. Thank the rep for their time and let them know that it was a pleasure to speak with them. Make sure you mention your full name, something memorable you may have discussed, and what jobs you’re interested in to refresh their memory. Attach your resumé so they have a digital copy as well.

  3. Remain responsive. The worst thing you can do at this point is fall off the map. If a company rep gets back to you, make sure to respond to each message within 24 hours (tops). Be sure to maintain a professional and courteous tone with each message, consistency is key!

We at Jobcase can’t wait to see our members turn this job fair into the beginning of their next opportunity! So, stay at it and maintain a consistent level of contact with the reps you talked to. Who knows? This may be the start of your next big career move.

How do you follow up?!

The Chicago job fair went great for me yesterday! I had to wait in line for a little bit, so I was scared at first that it would be so packed inside that I wouldn't get a chance to speak to anyone. It turned out to be pretty crowded, but you could still walk around and the reps that wanted to speak to me were available after only a short wait which was awesome.

I gave them my resume and we spoke for a bit about my professional history. Because of my background in hospitality I got a lot of interest from Hilton, which is very exciting for me!

One thing I’m wondering though…

Usually after an interview I’ll send that company a quick thank you email. Is that necessary in a job fair setting?

I gave them my resume, got their info and they seemed excited for me to apply, so it feels almost like I had an interview.

So, what can I do to follow up and just let them know that I’m thankful for their time and still really interested in the job?

If you don’t email, do you call?

Thanks guys!

Chicago!!!

Nice to have met you. I was one of the many dedicated CityWide Job Fair event coordinators at the job fair in Chicago yesterday. Nick, (the photographer), and I have something to say to each and every one of you who stepped up to have your profile pics taken…“Darlings, you look Marvelous!!”

I’m humbled to have been chosen to represent the Jobcase mission from a long list of very talented, highly qualified, and truly compassionate group of employees dedicated to the opportunity to be of service to you. The experience was memorable! I can’t stop talking to our team today about all of the experience, skills, talent, hopes and dreams you all have to offer and fulfill. We believe you and want to remind you that we're always here to help.

Take a moment to update your Jobcase profile with your recent pic and work related background information then use your profile webpage link to reach out to all your employment prospects and let them know you mean business! Remember to come back and share and collaborate ideas, thoughts, and challenges with the other million members, just like you, on this community and listen to their feedback.

If you’re local to Chicago, reach out to the Chicago Urban League team members with your questions and concerns. I had an opportunity to meet with talk with the organization leadership and volunteers that, though their actions, managed to convince me how invested they are in your desire to succeed.

Remember, the Jobcase Community is always here to support you. We invite you to join in, collaborate, share you experiences, ideas, thoughts, and most importantly; your desire to help others. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.

Your warm embrace and appreciation at the Citywide Job Fair has been well accepted. Thanks for all your Hospitality Chicago. Can't wait until next year!

Great Job Fair

I would like to commend the Chicago Urban League and Jobcase for sponsoring a wonderful Job Fair it was very informative, there were quite a number of potential employers that I was able to meet and hopefully land a position very soon, there was a separate forum that was held in a conference room conducted by the State of Illinois-CMS which was very enlightening I was able to gain insight into the process and procedures in order to obtain a job with the State of Illinois. Also, thank you for the free Headshot it was greatly appreciated.
