New position needed

After being at one position for 8 years, I was given a severance package, and let go with a pending dismissal date. Because of this I need a position asap in order to cover health benefits. After transitioning through every aspect of .Net development except modern full-stack and reactive programming I was let go. Hence, there is a good likelihood I will not have any references from this position which further complicates things. I was helping a senior developer and got yelled at, cussed out, and threatened. I reported it to management when it became a repeat occurrence. Not only did management do nothing, they made it into a performance issue on my part. The only performance issue was fixing in one Sprint what the senior developer couldn't fix in 5 sprints. I also let them know he sleeps at his desk and in meetings which didn't help. And I thought that Agile obstructions which the scrum master insisted on calling inpediments; I thought that helping to resolve minor issues would not be a big deal since I have always been glad to assist with most everything except direct code. But I finally said, yes, there are environment issues that will impede making these deadlines. I also wanted to institute a testability matrix as there was a disconnect between dev and qa. This was not acknowledged. Shortly thereafter there is a new manager, micromanaging with intense scrutiny and all of a sudden a new QA. I left out that there were multiple transitions in our new development team with layoffs, people going back to the main company, but me and 1 architect, 1 senior lead, and 1 senior developer and 1 junior developer were on the new development team , along with me, mid to senior level. Of those people, there was me, the senior developer, the junior developer and everything else being a problem for the senior lead. A pretty disorganized team that still expected deliverables with no questions asked. The long and the short of it is that I'm left with my old recruiting buddies in the industry and making some new ones. But it's a pretty bum deal for working that long and hard. If anyone has some leads to get around the reference issue I would sure appreciate it.

Recruitment

How does this group feel about IT recruiters? I just interviewed for one of their positions on Tuesday, and I mentioned that I was familiar with Java/Java Script which they seemed impressed by. They, however, have not gotten back to me, which was expected given what else happened in the interview, but I thought Java was the most basic form of computer coding out there.

Odds and Ends

Hi, I am a long term student who has some knowledge of computer Science, engineering and software. Am now in school for security and assurance in the IT Field. New to what all's out there, in what ways can I use me education to benefit me in a positive way. Since all I've really done is odds and ends for people by fixing their systems? Any ideas?

Need some help

I have posted before but since this is a Computer Science and Game Development group, I would like some help. I went on the interview for a company and after the interview I gave them my references. I follow up and they say they would make and anticipation hiring decision on the week of July 17. 2 weeks later I follow up and the company response was We’re in the process of hiring a senior security engineer that will be assuming the hiring responsibilities of technical personnel. We are anticipating the need for additional resources soon and I’ll be sure to share with him your information and details of our interview a few weeks back to give you a chance when there are open positions. I would like to ask people in this group, does this mean I didn't get the position that applied for or they just holding off on hiring. Some people said to follow up or send a thank you email. If I did follow up, what do I say and if I send a thank you email, do I send it as though the position was filled? Any suggestion or idea.

Interviewing for tech job??

My friend is interviewing for a job in technology, is it different than interviewing for a retail or food service job for example? How should he prepare for the interview?

What would you Do

If you're in a computer science or game development interview, and the interviewer asks:

Do you have any hobbies?

What do you say to impress them?

  • I enjoy playing video games and coding a lot
  • I don't really have any hobbies
  • Listing a hobby not related to the industry

Which would you choose and why?
