Service at Seismic Equipment Solutions

37 yrs as a Sr field service engineer in the oil and gas

I can't seem to find a job in or out of the oil and gas industry. I've got a excellent 37 yr resume from management, budget, proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Linux Paint and more. I've taugh over seas and in the US. The only thing I'm not good at is sales. Is there anything out there other than a security job for $10.50 or driving Uber? We have lost our home and life savings. We now live in a 22 yr old RV. I'm at a complete loss.

Dennis, it is definitely tough times and I feel your pain and have gone through similar situations a few times over. I just recommended to a friend after witnessing him searching and going on interviews with no positive outcomes after he was laid off from a job (25years) to try indeed.com or simplyhire.com. Within one week after I suggested these two sites which by the way I have been very fortunate to find employment using both sites, he interviewed for a position two weeks ago and was offered the job last week. Indeed.com lists openings with some of the top companies, just need to search based on your interest and location. I do recommend to others to be open-minded to new opportunities, and if you are flexible as far as location, you expand opportunity even more. Another thing that's helped me and actually landed me into my current role is starting a LinkedIn account, this is a very powerful way to network with people who are decision-makers, this provided me the opportunity to connect with HR managers, people in high level positions, and to automatically view many job opportunities, I applied for my current job directly from LinkedIn, and was notified for an interview within a week. I recommend if you can to take an online LinkedIn training this is what I initially did, it helped me to understand the benefits of LinkedIn and how to build your connections, the more people you connect with the more opportunities come your way. I wish you the best in your job search.

Hi Dennis, I know of a company that subcontracts for Ford and they are always looking for people to help on the Ford hotline. They require an engineer degree to start but I believe the pay starts at 80k a year. If you are interested I will see if i can run the number down for you. They are also the ones that run the classroom training all over the United States. Other than the degree they teach you everything you need to know.

I am in the same boat but different industry. Software industry as Product Manager and Marketing for about the same period. Been looking way too long and decided to change careers and start a financial Advisor position building a new business for myself. Can take it into retirement as well. Keep losing opportunities to people with 15 years experience unfortunately due to my age I believe.

Dennis - If you don't mind relocating, I would just search/google the oil and gas industry first near you and then just branch out to other locations that a reasonably commutable. Also, you may just want to print out about 10-20 resumes and hop on a bus and just ride around looking for construction sights. Find the site manager and give them your resume. I did that a few years ago and ended up with a 6 months assignment about 15 minutes from where I lived. As a matter of fact, I got 95% of my temp work myself by doing that. You don't need a car...just bus fare, good walking shoes, presentably dressed and a smile. Don't get down if you don't get immediate work. It will come.
