I’m not sure what to do

I finally got a job offer for a position I wasn’t originally serious about because of the starting pay which is significantly lower than what I am used to making in a similar position. I already tried negotiating a higher compensation package but was told that my offer is at the highest level they can pay an employee at that position right now. My finances are a mess as a result of a complicated divorce and being unemployed for so long. I’m concerned about accepting a position that won’t help me meet all of my financial obligations. I know something is better than nothing but I don’t want to have any resentments about accepting the job down the road. I have until the end of the week to respond but I’m not sure what to do. Should I say no thanks and continue to look for something better?

None at None

Accept the offer and don't give up yet because you do not know what tomorrow is holding for you. Give it a try and see how things will turn up ,very essential thing you should do is keep searching for job somewhere else. where they will pay you according to your expectation, because if you say no now you will only add up to your problems and everything will be a big mess for you. And it might take you long to clean it up and move on. So think about it very well by looking at both sides, positive and negative side also have to handle it.

Given what you said if it's not what you really wanted but applied anyway and it's not financially going to help you then i would just tell them something better came along and move on. Trust me I just did the same thing took a job just to get one and nothing is going right except my pay isn't the problem it's that i really didn't expect to get it so I needed to take it at the time. I have a feeling I will be looking again too. I hope things work out for you. But try to find a job where you will be happy otherwise you will regret it I know this now. Good Luck :)

So Shannon, you give the impression that you make more money in the week you are deciding what to do. Why is this even a question? You do realize that while you may make less than what you used to make, you don't have to stop looking for better pay elsewhere. You didn't mention whether accepting this position would cost you more money to work, than to not work. Is that the case? Are you on Welfare or get some kind of public assistance that will stop when you go to work? So really what you are asking is, should you accept this job and give up the small amount that you do get and you don't actually have to work for it. That is a question only YOU can answer. You have to tell the whole story to get an honest answer from Joe Public. If you had said that to begin with, I don't know if some of the answers here would be different. I would say, the answer to your question is, was Welfare, food stamps, etc worth not working, and staying home with your family? Or will the little extra you get from working, be worth it? You must answer that question, not us.

Something is better than nothing. So I myself would take it but continue to look for a job that meets your needs. A Bird in the hand is better than 2 in the bush. At least you will have something. Plus it is easier to get a job when you have a job. I am in that position now. But I keep looking .
