Hi Regan, First, congratulations on exploring professional opportunities ... these days, you have many more options than perhaps when your mom was a Teller. With respect to your question, there are many places online that describe the Teller role, the training available, pros and cons, cost, etc. Ill share what I know as as a Development Exec in Financial Services... The Teller role is typically entry level, but it's not an easy job. Pay is low and position is considered a revolving door - meaning many constantly leave and are replaced by new employees... Also considered stepping stone to more bigger roles - either in other areas of the same bank or outside... Teller roles may be a good match for employees who may not yet know the type of work they want do, as you you will be exposed to the different jobs available in a bank and can learn and strengthen multiple skills. Here are some key Teller responsibilities: Must comply w/ many bank and Govt regulations to avoid exposing the bank, must be accountable for bank assts (currency and customers), must be good w/ figures and comfortable using technology, must demonstrate excellent customer service skills and enjoy sales... Hi Regan, I suggest you check out the Department of Labor website or salary.com to get the average salary for tellers. Last time I heard the job does not pay a real lot, but often times can lead to promotions within the bank or other areas in finance. Good luck!

If I was younger I would definitely go for it. You can stay with the same bank and apply for positions at banks that are in a place you would like to live for a couple of years and see if you can get a better position in the same branch or another move perhaps where your other half has been accepted for a job.
