I always find that customer service is really most rewarding when you understand the brand value of a good customer interaction. It can only take one poor customer service interaction to put someone off a company, and once they tell their friends and family (or the internet at large) the ripple effect can be huge. Similarly, an amazing customer interaction can have just as wide an impact on customer opinion. Anything beyond that is extra, but appreciated nonetheless.
