Medical Billing & Coding

Hi, I am looking to transition into medical coding w/billing. I started the online program a few months ago. I even started applying as a medical-receptionist with the goal of getting my foot in the door and would like to get experience before completing the course. Is there a better strategy? Most clinics require one year of experience. Thanks!

I suggest starting with a small office, like you are. Watch and learn from everyone and you can gain their experience and move up from there. Finish your course and test with the AAPC to show employers that you're a professional and serious.

thanks

Hi Breyna, I have bèen a medical biller for 30 years now and now studying for my medial coding license. I have always worked at big hospitals. I think you should apply for any office job at a hospital to get you experience in the health field. I want to wish you the best of luck! I love medical billing and coding, it's a great field to get in.

Hi Breyna: I registered with DeVry to take the Medical Coding and Billing courses but then had to push my start date back as I lost my job and have to focus on finding full time work before I go back to school. Can I ask where you are taking your courses at and if you are enjoying it? I know...most medical offices wont hire you without experience....its frustrating.
