Office Manager at Oquirrh Mountain Dental

I was also laid off

My employer asked me what I thought about taking a cut in pay. I hadn't received a raise in 7 years so I told him I obviously wouldn't be excited to do that. There was no ultimatum given so I thought it would blow over. He apparently put an ad online for my position without my knowledge. One month later he let me go saying that he found someone that would work for less money and no benefits. I have 33+ years in this industry and now trying to find a job that pays decent is becoming impossible to find. Plus when potential employers ask me why would an employer let someone go of my caliber and experience it is sending red flags to them even though I am awesome at my job. I am able to collect unemployment for the time being but I had 306 vacations saved up and he threatened to sue me if I try and collect that money.

It's all about the benjamins, nowadays they do not, do not care how many years experience you have. I went through the same scenario, they hired a male stating he can take off some of the load off me since I was working 4 jobs, coming in at 8 am and leaving at 9 pm plus working weekends and holidays. I had to do court runs to defend the company and policyholders. the previous manager was fired so I had to take on his work until they found a replacement. so they did 6 months later. who came in and cleaned house. I heard a few months after they let him go. smh. The person who took my place is still there from the contents of FB. that place is now majority male. all the females were replaced with people without ovaries. they tried to call me a few months after inquiring if I was still in the city and available. I did not give my destination, I asked why they just wanted to know.

I have never heard of a former employer having the right to sue a former employee for cashing in accumulated vacation time they rightfully earned. I know of some places where if you have put in less than five years and you don't use your vacation time you'll lose them. In fact if you leave these same places via resignation or termination, they automatically compensate you for the vacation time you have accumulated. If your former employer had threatened to take you to court for cashing in accumulated vacation time, you definitely should fight fire with fire and fight him in court as well because that doesn't sound right. And as far as employment goes, if you have,a good reliable car I would recommend driving for Lyft and Uber. You'll be your own boss, you can work when and however long you want and if you put in the time you can make some real good money. May God be with you in your future endeavors.

Blast that company with name In front of blast, you need to go to labor commissioner's office look up age discrimination along with a retaliation claim, threat of being sued as a form of intimidation, but be careful what you say in your blast. Look up age discrimination (SSI)over the age of 45, before you anything!!!!!!!!!

It is hard to believe your previous employer is so evil and doesn't care about hurting you after all those yrs but you know it will blow up in his face. You are going to land on your feet. He will get his just due. Employers are mean now they don't care about you and always make it like it's the employees fault. They want you to play by the rules when they don't.

Companies like this disgust me! I lost my full time position after 16 years only to give a full time spot to someone much younger. I haven't a option but to work there seasonally due to my age. I would collect that money if I were you! It's your's, you earned it, you deserve it! Screw them, let them try to sue you for what is rightfully yours. I wish you the best.

It's a scare tactic. It's not legal for him to sue you because you would not take a pay decrease. However he could be a at will employer which means he does not have to give a reason for letting you go. He Still has to pay you for any services rendered plus vacation you have earned. That the law at lease in the state of Michigan
