What does it take to become a Driver?

Alot of money!

Personally, if you are wanting to do commercial, I would shoot for the class A, because then, you could go either A or B work. If you only have a class B, then that is what you would be restricted to.

What exactly are you wanting to drive? Commercial or Uber or Lift? If Commercial, do you want to do class B work with a Box Truck or class A with a tractor/trailer combo?

I would suggest looking at your local community college or tech school for training. Yes you can get company training, but most lock you into a term commitment where they are paying barely enough to survive, and you are really only a second driver for their truck. Also many companies will promote people to trainers that don't have the experience needed to truly train you at all.

It takes somebody who is aware of their sorroundings, somebody who has patience, some who is considerate, and somebody thinks about the safety of others and him or herself.

A lot of over the road trucking companies will pay for school if you sign a contract.

I got my CDL from a job I was working for. I was driving buses. So it just depends on your job.

The commitment to follow the Law of Driving to the last line and the Loyalty of your vow to be a Professional Driver at all times.

The schooling is paramount. There are aspects of driving you will never learn in a regular vehicle. The easiest way is to find a company that will pay for the testing. Having an experienced driver to help you through the manual will help also.
OTR is not and I repeat not for everyone! It takes getting your CDL, passing aDOT physical a background investigation if you plan on hauling Hazmat
