Looking for an honest boss

My last position was for 13.5 yrs. I was let go because I was not comfortable with illegal things my boss was doing. After trying to have a conversation with him regarding this, he let me go. I believe he's giving me bad references now. Just looking for honest work for honest pay. I was a bookkeeper, office manager and customer go to.

You had a cooked boss....its not your fault. Look for a new job. Bosses don't like it ...when a employee tells on them. Just know someday...he may be lockd up.

Lisa, I would be careful not to mention any of your former employer's perceived illegal activities to a perspective employer; it doesn't look good when an applicant bad-mouth's their previous employer. I would keep the focus on your resume and discussion during the interview on your accomplishments over the past 13.5 years. I would find someone else within the company to use as a reference. You can also have a friend call him for a reference check to see how he answers questions, just so that you know for certain what is being said about you and your past performance. Usually most employers will only give dates of employment and title. There is one question that can be asked during a reference check that can harm someone's potential to receiving a job offer and that is: "Is this person eligible for re-hire?" If the answer is "No", the could hurt the chances of a call back or job offer. Hence, I'd find an alterative person within the company to be able to use a reference. I hope this helps, Lisa. Best of luck!
