Working high school student

She told me I was a failure

I began working at Walgreens because my family needed some extra cash when my mother was sick. We all get those grumpy customers now and again, but on one shift, I was running the register when an old lady called me an “ignorant high school drop out.” I accidentally messed up her change by 5 cents and she freaked. She told me I was NOT going anywhere in my life. I took a deep breath, smiled, and told her that I was working there while my mom was sick because my father needed to be home to care for her and that I was actually still in school. She came over to me and said she was so sorry. I thought she was going to cry right then and there, so I told her it was ok and she left.

I will never accept that I am anything less than awesome, no matter who tells me otherwise, and you shouldn't either!

I know I get people though my line at a grocery store in FL telling me I'm beneath them during season because I live in the 4th richest city in USA. I work another job as an hr manager for an insurance firm and am working to get my second ba in hr administration while being a single mom too. I'm a registered records administrator who retired early only to find I'm divorced from my abusive ex husband now so starting over is hard. I pay my own Bill's and do everything to give my child the best educational experience and music lessons ever despite these mean people some of which apologised to me later for their comments. Stay strong and get as much education as possible because u will need it as you get older to be viable in the workplace!

Good for you! I'm so proud of your actions. People get angry at sales people, gas station attendants, register workers, etc. and take it out on them. They forget they too are human beings. You turned a tough situation into a humanizing event. I'm so glad she listened.

Old bat!! I'm sorry that happened to you. I've been short changed before and politely told the cashier. They don't need to be a pus about it!

Great response! Your parents taught you right and you will be a very sucessful person one day. Confidence and self steem something that can only be taught at home and for sure your parents did it right.
