See if you can set up at least three references, including a manager/supervisor, a co-worker and so on. A friend can speak about your character, but not your work skills. I have a prepared page with my three, including their position, company and all contact information, which makes it easy. Ask your references their permission and give them a head's up when it looks like someone will be contacting them.
