At Wit's End

I feel like I'm ready to explode. I'm a 61 year old single female, whose job was outsourced at the end of 2017. I have been to four temp agencies, posted my resume on Indeed, Monster, etc. have been on numerous phone interviews, and a couple of in-person interviews. I was at my last job (A/R and collections) for 15 years, and was told after a phone interview (for a TEMPORARY JOB in my field) that they were looking for someone with "more experience". I am always upbeat on the phone and in person, but I always get the feeling these employers are looking for someone younger. Unfortunately I am too young/broke to retire. What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions other than suicide? I am becoming more and more depressed as the days go by, and have NOBODY to talk to. Thank you.

This is david. My recommendation is to search out the employment area of Security services. As a a group they don't care about: age, sex, or experience. You can use this income to keep you going. If you are concern about your resume don't, it has already been trash. Good luck and remember Security Services are convenient and this what you need at this time.

Joanne, i SO TOTALLY empathize you. Though i am 56, i have encountered the faceless indifference and arrogance of employers on getting back in the work force. I have kept at it and see progress. DAMNED TIME TOO! I pray you keep at it too, but i know what you feel.

The best thing that you may have to do is try and join a community college and apply for financial aid if you cant pay for it. If anything take a refresher course to a recertification and while you are there you may be able to inquire about postings or inter/externship to be able to get your foot in the door to the field of your choosing. At this point after a certain age the best bet is to go back to a vocational college/school. I know it may be something you don't want to hear but maybe as well you may want to change your field. An older person has a better chance of the medical field since they seek individuals whom are caring to care for patience with a delicate touch of TLC. Hope this helps..

Hey Joanne, I was in the middle of responding to you, and I lost it (I think) so I'm sorry if I'm repeating myself. Youre right, they are looking for someone younger, it's a tough age & time for employment. So many things have changed including the interview process. FIRST -& most IMPORTANT... You have clearly made it for 61yrs!! I know it is very challenging out there, but it sounds like you are healthy, smart, experienced, & available!! This is just a TEMPORARY bump in the road! Keep doing what you are doing, Temp agencies, unemployment office , & if you go online maybe NJ 201? sorry, I'm not sure but this will give you so so many places,& people of where to get help. It's a great site! Go on craigslist also lower right corner for a quick temp job(sometimes cash) Good site to I've helped @ the Balloon Festival etc... Remember there are 365 opportunities in a year!!! Go get them!!

In order to face reality you should first look at the job posting . Look for a position that are looking for someone to assist in a startup company These companies would jump at the opportunity to hire someone with your experience. Remember years of knowledge , professional skillset, and experience are your selling points.

Hi JoAnne! Never give up, Dear. It coulda got better the day after you ended it all. Did I write that correctly? Don't give up before the miracle happens. I do understand. Right now, I'm stuck with a man whom I'm not in love with. Do you know how it feels to be with a man whom you don't want near you. Do you know what I mean? I have a cat who's like my child. She is very comfortable here. I need a second job to get out. I'm on a wait list for an assisted apartment. I couldn't leave now. I realized that, as a lot of busses stop running at night. How do people get home? I can't even afford a bicycle now. School is on hold. I have serious financial issues to take care of, yet my husband always cries for my money. He wants me dependent on him. I'm lucky I've got my job I do have. My husband is high maintenance. Is leasing a 2018 Cadillac we can't afford. Anyway, this isn't about his drama self. It sounds like you and I are in need! Amazon will open their fulfillment center in Euclid in 2019. Hold on, girl. Please do not give up.

Suicide? I am in hopes that you really don't feel this way. One. There are ten and eleven year old children at St. Jude's Hospital fighting for there lives and facing terminal illnesses. You really need to take a step back and evaluate your current position. This might be your way out on moving on to something better. Pick your head up and find your purpose. We take way too many trials for granted and should be seeing it as a sign to move on. Wit's end is when you have exhausted all options...Age should never be an excuse as they will never tell you that is why you were let go. Find your purpose now. No excuses. Handle it... Tru
