I feel like quitting my job because I’m having a hard time getting along with the other crew members. I already hinted my unhappiness to the manager but I is there anything else I can do?

I like everything about the job except the people I’m working with. They’re constantly arguing, complaining, and talking behind each other’s back. The work environment is anything short of TOXIC and the manager is clueless. I can’t afford to leave this job but I’m slowly losing my sanity.

Margaret I have experienced this exact thing before....I would suggest depending on what company it is to put in for a transfer to another store location in area. I personally have found that the atmosphere is different at each store location and management can be far better than the one i was at. If you really like the company and want to stay with them than I suggest contacting your hr rep and talking to them about the situation as they can help facilitate a discussion with alternate store.

I too, work in a toxic environment. If you quit THEY win. Stay true to yourself and do your job to the best of your abilities. If the situation deteriorates even further, then take it up the chain and document document document.

doesn't matter if you tell the manager or not. people are who they are and just because people work in the same place, does not mean they will ever get along......start your jobhunt and go

I worked for a toxic office like that for over 10 years. Many times, I was the one targeted because the senior employee didn't like me. I was finally laid off, and I am much better off for it.

That said, going to HR or your manager probably won't accomplish much. Especially if the manager is clueless or doesn't want to make waves with the staff.

Keep your head-up and continue doing your work .You are not there to make friends always remember that you're putting food on the table and paying your bills. Put it this way, pretend your in a new school environment! Just IGNORE THEM! DO YOUR BEST!!!

No don't suffer n silence ask your boss if there is a way you can still have your job but away from the rest of the crew.if not you need to find something better your sanity is a stake here .Janice

If the environment is toxic now, it probably has been for quite some time. Ask a friendly about the turnover rate. That should give you a good clue as to how this business is run. As a new employee, nobody is going to care how you feel and HR departments are useless. They only exist to prevent lawsuits. If you file a complaint, you become the target, not the one in need of help. I agree with others who say to have a one-on-one with your manager but pick your words wisely. They don't care if you are unhappy because there is always someone else to fill your shoes. Try to hang in there for minimally a year for the experience but if it is too toxic, be bold and quit. You, and your sanity and stress levels, are what's most important. Good luck.

This type of work stress can definitely lead to early burn out. You don't say what kind of work you do or what the office set up is, but you can find ways to carve out private time or space to reduce your stress. For example, take a walk at lunch or bring a book. I am concerned that you have let your manager know you are unhappy in a job you said you otherwise like. Realistically, what do you want your manager to do? You don't want to seem like you don't like/can't work with the team but you can re-direct your focus on bringing about positive change. There are steps you can take such as bringing in donuts one morning, suggest a group lunch or birthday cake celebration. Steer negative conversations to more positive topics. Compliment people.

Document (your phone is great for this...easy record feature, but make sure you are in a state that allows one party to record another unknowingly...) No need to use this per se, but good defense should the whole department unravel....too, get ROLE CLARITY (usually by talking your job description over with your boss, update and CLARIFY where needed- most job descriptions suck), so you can prove you are doing YOUR job....third, don't jump without a parachute- find your next job FIRST....Ann Landers definition of gossip: Is it true? Is it kind? If you can't answer YES to BOTH, it's gossip, and gossip is toxic
