Ready To Work Again, But No Luck!
My last job was officially in 2011. My mother and father needed help with a caregiver. So for 6 years, other than an insurance class here and there. I have a huge gap on my resume. I was hired in 2017 for office work but turned out the pool business and selling new pool renovations wasn't my thing to say the least.
My resume has still managed to get me requests for Assesment tests, which sadly I just past at average scores. There are plenty of qualified, younger candidates that on paper are getting hired.
Is there anything I can do to open up some doors? I have over 20 years experience in Office Administrator skills. I am also 53 years old.

Okay, 1st of all you don’t look near your stated age. With your experience in office management and your invaluable knowledge from taking care of adults of advanced age and your hands on knowledge of caring for end of life parents...
Maybe check with local nursing homes or even hospice agencies.

How would you start to get a job like that

Linda, 2020census.gov/jobs. They are hiring all the way through April of 2020. TYJ

I just inyerviewed for a contractor administrator job. It went well, but I'm back to pools and rennovating, bids, permits etc. Which if I wasnt so desperate for a job I would turn it down. But I'm great on the phones with customers or clients so they are bery interested in me! The pay, hours and location are perfect tho!

Hi Linda Heaver - I'm happy to hear that you are ready to work. That attitude is going to go a long way. And as far as your taking care of your family - that can be considered a job. Check out this conversation on how to leverage that experience on a resume and in an interview.
If you have 20 years of office admin experience, but the pool business didn't work out, then I would encourage you to try and think about what business or industry you have an interest in or experience with, and look for office admin jobs in those areas. Often just a little bit of outside knowledge of passion can help put you over the edge for the job.
I hope this helps Linda! Best of luck in your search, and please keep us updated on how it is going!
Think higher and go for administration positions.
