Feeling Helpless.

I've recently had to acquire custody of my 6yr old son. In doing so I have found it extremely difficult to figure out a way to fit a full time job into a schedule that consists mainly of taking care of him. I have to get him up in the morning for school and help him get dressed, take him to school, pick him up from school, help with homework, prepare dinner, make sure he's bathed and then get him ready for bed. There just aren't enough hours in the day for a full-time job. I've considered working part-time but being a single dad, working part-time just wont provide enough of an income.

I am in a similar situation. Everyone's response is to put my son in before and after school care/program. My son has sensory processing disorder, adding more time to an already long school day is not an option for us. He also has 1-3 rotating appointments a week after school for OT, BT and psychiatrist. We are not eligible for any assistance from disability to subsidize my lack of available hours to work full time. Without working full time and not getting health benefits is another issue.

Welcome to the life if single parenthood.! I have learned over the years that there are lots of good paying jobs or events that I had to pass up because I wouldn't have childcare. It's alot of scarifice! I have my son in after school care until 6pm which gives from 8 to 5 to work 5 days a week at 40 hours. I am currently a waitress but its enough to house chothe & feel him.
