Breaks?

I worked for a company where 6am was the start time. We worked until 11am when we took our 30mins for lunch. Them we continued our day 11:30am until 4-4:30pm, depending on the work load. Is that legal under Minnesota labor law to allow only one break per work day?

I believe in MN it's 30 mins for over 6 hours? Or maybe 15 mins every 4 hours?

I would say go to your HR or possible legal resources

Waffle House which as semi retired but needing insurance, worked from 0600 to 3pm with no breaks, unless you were not part of the preferenced employee. Cut hours 2 hours shy of the 30 hours to get insurance. Charged 4.00 a pay check for meals which again you did not get if not a pet employee.

Verbally abusive managers (used to young employee s), and no training.

They break preatty much every labor law on the books.

As a 30 year senior manager in transportation, I have never witnessed more unprofessional and self serving company in my entire working career.

Profit before people !!!!!!

Be thankful that they give you a half hour break to eat during the day. There are some jobs that people even though they are entitled to due to handbook don't get a chance to take a 5 minute break let alone a half hour. This happens mostly with people who deal with saving lives of others but it does happen elsewhere also depending on the day. Thank God for the Doctors and Nurses who help save lives and don't complain because they didn't get a break in 8 hours due to an overfull emergency room or a surgery that takes 6 plus hours to help a person. The abulance drivers who just got a hot take out meal and put it down because someone needs help and they don't get a chance to eat it until they get off work. Firefighter who battle a fire for hours. Search and rescue teams both paid and volunteers after a disaster strikes. Any others I may have forgotten to list. The world isn't perfect. Like I said be thankful you are able to have that 30 minute break.

To all those I listed above and any others who I may have forgotten that don't always get the break they need..... Thank you for all you do and giving of yourself so unselfishly to help others. God bless you.

I don't know about the legalities of it but I'll tell you if you have an employer that gives you an hour for lunch plus two 15-minute breaks during an 8 hours schedule don't leave

Paid 15 min mandatory after 4 hours, after 6 hrs, mandatory 1/2 hr, not paid. That's the law in GA, but it may mirror the federal laws.

In Minnesota there is no law regarding breaks just requires a lunch be scheduled if you work more than a certain number of hours per day.

It sounds like they are breaking federal law maybe even Minnesota law as well. My current company is concerned about keeping accurate records as far as actual time worked for all employees. Now you should ask your HR dept. if there is some mistake. Also let them know if you don't get two breaks beside your lunch, you will talk to a lawyer(you may get awarded the breaks you never got). Good luck. Troy Lawson
