Store Manager Retail

Oh my goodness, what do i do?

Good day jobcase Seekers. How's things? I really need some help on this one. this is a toughy. let me give you just a bit of background for my situation. I recently was let go from Walmart of 12 years as an assistant mgr in Jan 2016 making $61,000 w/bonus. Since then I've actually only acquired one job as a store manager for Spirit Halloween making $800 wkly from aug-nov and re eived $1900 bonus. in the gaps, I still have had no job opportunities but I've gone on several interviews and applied online several times. Within these gaps I am still collecting unemployment. recently the only bright spot has been the United States Post Office (in which I used to actually work for the company back in 1995) and my other opportunity has been Federal Express. I have gotten 3 interviews and one job offer (starts april 10 orientation) to work at the United Postal Service the hourly pay is about $17 and change. but keep in mind I may be scheduled to work one day this week - with no days next week, or work 4 days this week - work one day next week. so obviously I am a backup as a rural carrier - part time Temp/ no benifits (no determined hours week-to-week). on the flip side Federal Express literally just called me today to offer me a job that pays $18 and some change, however the schedule is Tuesday to Saturday 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. only (20 hours wkly until Xmas) - part time perm/ benifits after 90 days. Last choice, I have also reapply for Walmart as a possible supervisor associate which I believe they're paying them now between $15 - $16 (after 60 days you can always reapply for Walmart if your rehireable - and pass assessment test - which I've done) my question to you, please help me out with this dilemma. is what do I do? do I take one of the carrier jobs and collect partial unemployment or do I continue to apply for assistant and store manager positions in retail and my final choice is do I go back to Walmart as an hourly supervisor knowing I already know the job of my assistant manager and be respectful enough not to step on his or her Authority? with all this in mind, I need to make this decision really quick because I have till 3 p.m. today or Monday 3 p.m. for FedEx's job offer sign off. I have orientation with the post office on April 10th and I still have to get back to one of the co-managers at Walmart to tell them if I want to pursue an hourly supervisor position. I am really stressed right now because it feels good to get back in the Working World but I want to make sure when I go into it it's worth my while. especially when I'm taking a huge pay cut. Oh and by the way that I also let you knoe that at age 50 I'm going back to school and taking online classes for my major in business retail management for a bachelor's degree which starts on April 3rd. please give me your honest thoughts I really need some advice on all aspects from the outside world. thanks again jobcase Seekers and I truly wish you well on your continued job search. Send me your feedback thanks so much

If I were you, I would go back to Wal Mart and pursue your college degree. It seems like the best option to me. After you achieve your degree, with your background and experience in retail, the sky's the limit. Good luck and keep up your ambitions. Very admirable!!! You go girl.

Your in hot demand it seems like, so I can understand the stress of making a decision. I would chose what is more beneficial to you. If something pays better but will be short lived/termed-- then how is that really better when you will be right back where you started from. And Walmart letting you go after all those years--- you WANT to go back to work for them? I had 25 years behind me when I got downsized from a company- I couldnt find a job for 3 years, so I had to cash out my pension to live on it, I was 43. Later I ended up working for the same company, same building, same people but as a Contractor in 5 different positions over the next 10 years--- with unemployment between each one of them. I am 58 now & its wrecked my health, but i had to find some income, they offered the contract position which I grabbed coz I needed an income--- NOT because ,, I loved that company so much I wanted back in--- contractors are not a stepping stone of being hired back as an employee. As a contractor your treated as a thing- a disposable,, & nothing more. So,,, for you I would pick something that has potential, lasting and beneficial in helping support you, your lifestyle & long terms goals,,,, if you can do that with 2 part time jobs, then do that if both are willing to work thru both schedules.........And stress is a killer,,, flip a coin if you must,,, but all those 15 years of (for me) constantly yo/yo employment, unemployment I was constantly stressed out to the max that I ended up acquiring Adrenal Fatigue Syndrome.

Is there any way you can work the USPS job and the Fedex job? Like, just led Fedex know about your schedule at USPS and see if you can work the days and times you aren't there?
