Betsy the Care Giver
I am a care giver and I have been working for a little over a year and this pass Sunday, I was informed that other employees were more valuable than myself and I needed to find something new. Mine while the mother of the 33 year old Autistic son, still has me doing stuff like her laundry and alot of other stuff that's not my job title. She is taking my kindness to get her stuff done. I am so hurt by this because I have gotten to care for the son, like my own son and I know the care isn't going to be when I go. I too am having problems because of my age being 44 years old no one wants a mature woman.. It's just sad.

Hi Betsy Rippy I am so sorry to hear this! You should never feel obligated to do things that you 1- aren't compensated for 2- aren't in your job description. At that point she is just taking advantage of you which is NOT ok! I am sure it's hard to say goodbye to your patient, but you can find another that needs you just as much. Your age does NOT matter it's your experience and even though she had you doing all of those extra things you can add them to your experience part of your resume. She can never take that away from you. There are MANY people who would want you because you know what you are doing versus someone right out of college. Your experience is amazing so don't beat yourself up! Keep applying and looking for opportunities as a caregiver. You can do this!!
