Look for big box national chain companies, grocery stores, Mall stores, etc as they will respect labor laws restricting work hours, and limiting availability. As a first job, I'm assuming it's during high school, competing with sports, or other extra carricular activities. The overall objective of this first job is to teach him/her the importance of time management, and responsibilities. Being able to balance school, homework, and anything else, while not letting grades slip prioritizes social lives and sets them up for how busy life gets when school lets out for good.
