Research about the company and Job, if you are hired, carry a notebook and take notes. Ask question at that time and take notes. I love training new hires, I was great at it. But, new hires will not take notes unless told to. You never want to ask the same questions 3 or more times.

That is a really good question and one that I struggle with especially when companies want "experienced" people to apply. I haven't figured out yet how to get around that issue.

The best way to get experience in a new field is to start small with internships, volunteering, freelancing, or personal projects, while also networking on LinkedIn and with industry groups. This shows initiative and builds experience even before you land a paid role.
