AGE DISCRIMINATION
Hello...I am 76 years young and in good shape. I retired from a NY Newspaper after 35 years there as a senior photographer and photo editor. My credentials are 100%. I recently moved to Florida after retirement and want to go back to work in the photography field. I have applied for different jobs in this area and sent resumes and portfolios of my work. One was for a photo editor and the other 2 were for fashion photography, in which, have traveled worldwide doing fashion. Ever one of those companies said i did not qualify for those positions. If anything, I am probably over qualified. Without mentioning my age, the applications asked year of HS I graduated and the years I worked at other jobs...to me this is the same as asking for your age. COULD THIS BE AGE DISCRIMINATION and what can be done....thanks for returned information.

Absolutely, I wish I could find out who to talk to about this, all I need is a part time job to supplement my income

It certainly sounds illegal. I would contact authorities as suggested.
I’m a creative person myself. I’m an artist and I’ve pretty much lost all hope because of my age. I’m a bit lost.
Do ask EEOC.

Hi Joe Dombroski - thanks for coming to Jobcase. You'll find that it is a place full of people willing to lend their advice and share stories of their own employment experiences.
From what you describe, you definitely were qualified for the roles you applied for. That's not to say that they did not find someone who was more qualified, or fit into their company culture better, though.
However - you aren't the first person in the community to describe something that sounds like age discrimination in a hiring process. If you genuinely think that there was age discrimination, you should contact the EEOC.
