Some Jobs Requirement
It seem so frustrating that I obtain my Master's Degree and the State of Florida will post State position with seemingly tailored written job requirements with a specific person in mind for the job. Many lower level jobs REQUIRE a Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree for 20k and 30k jobs, but when it comes to a 50k + job then, no degree at all is provided, just a HS Diploma or GED. This happens so frequently that I even have a family member that I know will be hired for a State position that definitely should require some type of degree but he has been with the court system and has relatives that work in that system, but does not have a degree, and he will get the job posting(I guarantee this, even before the interviews are conducted) and I will most likely will not have a chance. Politics should be kept out of all job posting and hiring requirements, especially when State and Federal Funds pay the salary.
Hi Spessard Putnal - I agree. Politics should definitely be kept out of all job hirings. A lot of time, jobs are posted with someone in mind but legal reasons cause them to post the job online.
Here's something that I found out recently - a lot of jobs that require the Bachelor's or Master's degree don't actually require them. Many say they do, as with the entry level jobs that require 3-5 years of experience, but odds are if you are a good fit for the company/department and they feel satisfied that you can perform the job or be trained to, they may hire you anyway.
Keep on applying, Spessard. You have got this. A master's degree makes you a more educated candidate, and that comes with a higher salary tag.
