Working at Home Depot

After I retired from working as an Executive Assistant, I planned to upgrade my home. So got a job at home depot paint department and learned so much about painting, tile, blinds, carpet, plumbing and electrical. SO glad I took the opportunity to broaden my knowledge and HD was the perfect place to do it. Really enjoyed my time working for them and how well they treat their employees.

I've been in construction many years and know the isles at HD better than most employees do. Thought it would be a good place to work recovering from a back injury but never got an interview. Wondering what you put on your application? It was discouraging that i wasnt able to speak with manager. they just pointed me to the online application which went nowhere.

Worked for them for almost 6 years. They manage to get rid of you if you are over 50 and make at least 10 dollars an hour. They took away health insurance and got rid of me by saying I was late but it doesn't state that if you call and tell them they can decide to can your butt. Beware of so called it's in the employee hand book excuse.

Thank you so much for posting! Other Jobcase Community Members are looking for roles at Home Depot. Would you be able to share some of your experience on how you got the job? Did you apply on their website or go into a store? How long did it take from start to finish? What did you do to prepare for your interview? Thanks again for being part of the Jobcase community.

I love this! It's so cool that you found a way to get paid to learn something you've always wanted to. Not only did you expand your knowledge, you met friends who can help you with your home projects, and later on when you have more free time, I bet you could take what you learned there and make money helping people out on TaskRabbit or Handy. Thanks for this great post Cathleen!

That sounds like a really smart move Cathleen! Any chance you got some home depot discounts while working there so you could do your home upgrades for less?
