Amazon is always hiring but has extremely high turn over rate of that's why they advertise almost daily job openings in warehouse. Check GLASSDOOR for reviews. I know a person who is working there. Warehouse job have unrealistic expectations to inspect, sort or count packages - also use scan guns which are inaccurate. 3 written warnings and a person is fired. I know a person who started Oct 2018 warehouse quality control inspection You need to inspect an item for any minutia defect or smudge mark (people always need to wear gloves), scan bar codes to count it, move from one bin box to another in 6 seconds - 1 ITEM PER 6 SECONDS. You have to bend to move/count from one bin to another (large items or medium or small - all varieties mixed hodge podge in the bins: Examples a toy, a box of toothpaste, a clothing package, a tool, etc unrelated items - amounts vary per bin) - NO SITTING on chair, stool, or ground permitted - 9 hours straight on your feet. That means per shift of 9 hours (10 HOUR DAY) you need to complete 6,500 ITEMS PER DAY! Unrealistic - many younger people cannot do, neither older. One young guy in my town in his 20's quit the warehouse job after 6 months. You cannot work in warehouse at 8 or 8 1/2 day schedule -- it is mandatory 10 hr days minimum and 4 days per week = 40 hour week for full time work. Part time can be 3 hours per day but not sure how many days are mandatory in a week. Holiday schedule coming this week: OVER TIME is MANDATORY - Not sure if it varies, warehouse to warehouse or town or state. Minimum wage is about $15 per hr for warehouse for all employees per recent decision which is good but night and weekend work 9 PM - 7:30 AM as example, only pays about $1 more in differential. If you cannot reach quota on a given department or shift then you cannot move to day shift or better shift or better job or department which is something they don't tell you upfront - not sure if this policy pertains to all facilities or towns or states. People with high degrees/PhDs are taking these jobs. Cameras are pointed at you everywhere. Your supervisors constantly watch behind your back and they are usually people in their 20's with little or no experience who try to train and they usually cannot meet the quota in a short period when they re-train people to speed it up. The scan guns may not be accurate and can shortchange an employee and get the person erroneously fired. But usually there is no time for employee to tally up the items he counted and managers only trust the scan gun count from their computer reports which may at times be inaccurate or malfunction - you lose time to do your own tabulation. For warehouse jobs, they do not take resumes, no references checks. They do criminal background check and drug test with a cheek swab that HR personnel do on the spot - same day interviews - this may vary per facility. Cell phones must be left in cars or a buzzer will go off at turn-style security gates (like at subways) - very strict - like checking into air port or you check it in with security. Almost looks like a prison on inside. Lot's of noise due to robot rovers that they give you fresh free ear plugs daily - rubber squishy kind each day from a dispenser like the bubble gum dispensers. There may be 1,000-2,000 employees in any given warehouse - can stretch almost 1 mile X 1 mile. 30 minute unpaid lunch periods with 2 PAID breaks at 15 minutes each break. The break room/eating area for warehouse employees has only free coffee, refrigerators to place lunch bags, and vending machines stocked with snacks high priced, plastic soup cans or sandwiches - not sure if they are fresh. There is a fresh hot lunch cafeteria / break room that is only reserved for management who do not mix with non-management employees which is a first in the US as far as a company who segregates lunch/cafeteria/break rooms for managers vs non-managers. Non-managers feel slighted and discouraged. It may be the only company in the US and/or world with the highest stock yield per share. May be close to $1,800 per share, but check NYSE - some days may have some dips and ups.
