applying for the same job using different sources

Back in the old days, it was recommended to get your resume in front of the hiring manager as much as possible, applying multiple times with a gap of time between if necessary, until your name is familiar enough they almost have to call you. Now I am being told by recruiters that if you "apply twice" for the same job, you are automatically disqualified for that position. Is there any truth to this?

The catch is, the various ads and recruiters are so good at camouflaging jobs (and most seem to leave out the job id number), that its easy to accidentally apply twice without even knowing it. Am I being eliminated for being persistent and thorough? Seems like an odd screening, but if its true, I need to be even more careful to screen "interest'.

Thom, I feel your pain. The cyber process seems to make things difficult for those who want to work. Over the last few weeks, I have had much better luck with peers and associates to land a professional (salary) interview. This week I was told that I was over qualified during the wrap-up. Honestly, I am confused at "best qualified" and "over qualified" language used in the HR process.

Oh goodness Thom! I sure hope not. I don't believe that I've heard you get disqualified if you apply twice, but I do know it is best to not do this. You usually just want to follow up on the application they already have as most places keep these on file for 3-6 months.
