My son just started a job at CVS under their 45 day program for new hires. I was under the impression that this company is a professional based business especially with the intense paperwork he had to read and sign which went over with great details on all rules and regulations something expected in today's world. After his first day of 8 hour of just paperwork orientation, he started the on-job training on an overnight shift to learn cashiering, stocking and floor presentation. Besides being left on his own after a few basic presentation, the following occurred, he was not punched in until 2:30 am after starting at 10 pm and only because he needed the assistance of the person who was training him to ring out an individual, second he was told because he was a management person he was not entitled to any breaks period except for one bathroom break and at end of scheduled shift he was told he could' t leave because again as a management person he had to work until all jobs were done for the shift (he received no list of jobs needed for shift either.). I strongly believe this was a case of harassment by the employees of that shift to get him to quit. What is the best possible approach to this situation?

Hi Maria,

I think you should talk to your son about it and listen to what he has to say.

Unfortunately this is his job, not yours, so you personally can't do much about the situation. Your son, however, can do something about it. He can look for new jobs, not letting this one negative experience hold him back. He can stick through the position and not his coworkers affect him.

Your son is a grown person, he can handle himself. You should encourage him and support him in his decisions, and occasionally give advice.

Maybe he should talk to HR to report this situation, but he's only been working there a little while, so I'm not sure about this.
