What am I doing wrong?
I have been out of work since the week of Christmas. I cannot get anyone to call me back. What could I be doing wrong. I need some serious help. I have several years of PM experience, and some people have told me before that I have too much experience. What does that mean? I can't help the experience I have accumulated throughout the years. I need a job like yesterday. I feel like giving up at times.

Dont give up.I know its frustrating. You can be over qualified for certain positions.try going online and make sure your resume is updated and current. Temp agengies are helpful as well.just a thought.good luck.

don't give up keep at something will come along

I've been having rhe same peoblem for the last year and don't know what I am doing wrong

Hi Sherri, u know, if I had to guess, I would say it's your resume' and or cover letter. With the way things are done today, you need to get noticed. An employer who would normally receive 20 or 30 applications for a position, are receiving a couple hundred applications today with applying on-line. So your resume' needs to stand out. I would suggest complete your profile on Jobcase and click on generate resume'. Proof read and have another person who can be honest with you proof read, and does the resume' fit the job you are applying for? In my case, I also lost my last job the week before Christmas, and it was my resume that was holding me back. Once I did what I am suggesting to you, I started getting calls for interviews. I'm not going to sugar coat it, it is still difficult just because of the amount of applications employers are receiving. The point being, your resume' represents you to an employer, if it is incomplete or are misspellings, grammar mistakes, etc. You need to show that you took the time for the position you are applying to, by sending a nice document (your resume') with a cover letter relating your experience to the open position. Having to much experience means that you are essentially over-qualified for a job. Employers feel that with your experience that you wouldn't be content with what they are paying because of your experience level, and therefore, you probably won't last. Finally, giving up is not in the cards, not an option. Best wishes

Have someone (or a few different people) review your cover letter, resume, and references. Often if there’s even a tiny flaw like a misspelled word, they’ll put your resume in the “no” pile.

Hi Sherrie. Work with a career coach to assist you with your resume and filling in the gap of unemployment.

Do you have a current resume and you need cover letters for each job you apply for ok I worked at a Facility for 15 years as a cook learned everything by myself I got laid off on May 12, 2018 due to the company closing still haven’t found a job yet oh by the way I am 61 years old so the best of luck to you.

Just an fui. If you been applying for jobs and not hearing from anyone after they do the background check. The background check facility in my home state was not doing their job properly and added someone else's criminal record to my name which caused me to not get hired until one company told me what was on my record. So I went to the police department and sheriff department and had them ✔ nothing came up 0 zilch so I took it to them and they removed but by then I was turned down for many jobs.
Make sure you take the job search process as a full time job and work it as such. I've been unemployed for 6 months now and my approach hasn't changed. Do I get discouraged at times? You bet. I can't say enough about networking and with everyone you know and meet. I might also suggest investing $15-20 for about 250 business cards from Vistaprint. You don't need to have anything other than your name, number and email address on them but if you have a certain area of expertise or a mission statement that would be even better.
