Repeat Application?

Just throwing this out there. Back in May of this year, I applied for a job.. the company flew me in for the interview, paid for my hotel, the whole nine yards - they asked if I would stay in the state until they made their decision etc. After a 3 hour interview (which I thought went ok actually), I get an email at 1 am saying I made it to the final 3 applicants out of 70, but they decided to go with candidates with more experience etc. etc. Ok cool. Cut to the end of OCTOBER and the job is STILL being advertised and pops up on my search every day. To apply again or not to apply again.. THAT is the question! LOL

Hell Yes!! You made it to the top 3 last time and maybe choices 1 and 2 didn't work out. As long as it's not going to cost you any $$ to get selected and interviewed the 2nd time around then what do you have to lose?

Hi everyone... so when I first saw the job re-advertised, it was probably 2 or 3 weeks after that initial interview (in May), I did drop an email to two of the people who had interviewed me (the two more senior members of the panel and with whom I felt an ultimate decision on hiring would be made) and I expressed interest in the position since I saw it was being advertised again -- no response from them. NADA! Okay, so as I said now, it has been popping up as a suggested job for me every week since then, and today I did decide to reapply. I did it via the normal route, however when it came to a cover letter, I did mention the interview we had etc. and highlighted my strengths and what I felt I could contribute to their organization etc. So, it is a waiting game to see if they acknowledge the application, or if it falls into an abyss. As you have all rightly said, I have nothing to lose. But, it could either jolt some interest, or it can be ignored... maybe they are just gathering resumes (I doubt that though because they went through considerable expense to fly me in)....so, I have to accept that if it is the job that is meant for me, it will work out.. and if not, well then something better is out there waiting for me... we just haven't found each other yet. Thanks for the great replies everyone.

You can do two of the following things :

One - send an email directly to the HR person. Dear ---- , I am writing to re-apply for your position of _____________.

You can remind them of who you are with your name, the people you were in contact with - spoke too, but I would make note that you acknowledge they hired candidates with more experience, so I suggest you add what you have to offer and how you stand out .

This could have substantial success for it could highlight that you saw a flaw or recognize your need for improvement and how you fixed it. This email could show them that you had the kind of guts they want from a person at their company.

Or - since it's been quite a few months, you may have to apply again via the normal channels. If you applied online - you may be able to log back into your profile and submit it without re-entering all of your information.

You were interviewed previously, so you obviously were under consideration. That you were not chosen doesn't necessarily mean that there is something wrong with you or your profile, just that they thought someone else was a better fit at that time. That other person is now out of the market, so perhaps you are the best fit this time. Focus on the positive.

As to whether you should remind them that you interviewed previously, I would not do that in place of a regular application. Maybe include that in the cover letter or mention it if you receive a phone screen

Maybe they're just trying to collect resumes? If you want to apply again, you might as well, though. What would it hurt?
