I think a small gap in the resume could be explained in any way you choose. Be creative about your explanation. Why not? You deserve a chance. It's not like you hadn't worked for twenty years! I would remove that brief, unpleasant experience from the resume. It's hurting you. Don't talk about the illness. That's confidential and personal. They don't need to know.
