Ever work at a place where the person who is supposed to train you doesn’t? I call people like this “game players”, because they are playing their own game of information control. Their game doesn’t put the company first, or the division, or even the owners/ shareholders. Rather, it’s a self-serving game played by narcissists and megalomaniacs who want to retain control of processes. Control the information and you control the process, which gives you leverage within the organization. Well, that’s what I’m running into now. The person who is supposed to be showing me the processes for Billings, accounts payable, reconciliations etc., isn’t and refuses to, despite having been told to demonstrate the aforementioned on several occasions by our manager. So here I sit, on a Friday before a 3 day weekend, with 5 degrees (including degrees in Information Systems, Finance and Accounting), only a couple weeks away free taking the CPA exam, twiddling my thumbs. I’ve tried to contribute in my own way by analyzing what little data I can get my hands on, streamlining and applying technology to the one process I HAVE been shown (which was outside of her purview, which is the only reason why I was showing) and I ask myself is it even worth coming back to work on Tuesday morning.
