Ready for Round 2?

Check this out. I have a Job interview set up with a company that originally rejected me after an interview last year. They just called me out of the blue and asked if I was still interested in the position. I have a job right now but this is a much better gig with more money and benefits. Not much has changed for me professionally that I can add to the interview and I'm not sure what they didn't like about me last time that I can correct or do different this time around. So, what can I do differently to prepare for this interview?

OK, the pointers that I will give come from interviewing several people over the years, these are the things that made people stand out to me as an interviewer. First of all, go in with confidence. Remember that they obviously saw something in that first interview that made you stand out to them already just do not go in there overly cocky( there is a big difference between confident and cocky). Next, I can't stress this enough, do your research! Research the company online and formulate intelligent questions specific the company and/or position and don't forget to ask questions. I would avoid asking why you were passed by after the first interview though because that could be taken as pettiness depending on the interviewer and a misunderstanding is the last thing you want. If you are not quick on you feet with formulating earlier mentioned intelligent questions write them down and take them in with you to the interview you can even use the paper or notebook to take notes as you talk but make absolutely sure that if you do this you pay more attention to the interview than your notes and ask the interviewer if they mind you taking notes before the interview starts. Also, replace the word job with career in your thinking. No one, in my opinion, should ever look at an open position as a job as it gives the connotation of short term where as a career typically implies a a more long term intention. Lastly, remember some questions can be tricky so if you don't understand anything as questions before giving a generic answer. I hope that one or more of these tips will help you land this position as it sounds like a great opportunity! Good Luck!

That has happened to me before and I still didn't get the job rejected TWICE from the same company and I actually called them out on it the second time they called me to reject me i flat out said " you did this to me LAST year as well if you have no intentions of hiring me then or now, why even bother contacting me for an interview"..wasn't worth the time (and I didn't even apply the second time)

Try to be more dynamic. Tell them a story about what you have been doing to further your career since the last interview.

Go in with your best info and updated resume. Keep a open mind and obviously the candidate they hired before just was usually the job for launching to a better one and they remembered you from keeping your resume on file.
