What is going on!

I started working for a mechanic shop 2 months ago working Monday thru Friday 9-5 for a set amount every Friday. All the sudden the boss changed his mind and asked me if not only would I take 100 dollars less a week for a few weeks because we're slow but also work half day Saturdays. That is only a little over 6 dollars an hour and there is no way I'm doing that. I'm married with 2 kids and my wife is unable to work. The only thing saving us is that our house is payed off. I've been putting apps and resumes in like a mad man. I put in 63 over this past weekend on indeed and linkedin. I really don't know what to do anymore!

This is a huge problem with independent autoshop. My suggestion would be go dealership or invest in your own side business where you could be a mobile technician with a specialty such as electrical, brakes, tire rotation & repair, fluid and filter changes. If you are good and quick people love Mobile Service and no one likes to waste a day at a shop. This as well can give you the opportunity to sell jobs to certain maintenance shops where you offer your services to say for example a Transmission Repair shop and come to an agreement with the owner or manager where you agree on a commission % for every customer you bring in. The thing is you do need a business license but when you are good at what you do then take a risk. Don’t deny jobs because you don’t know how to do it because a technician will find a way to make a customer happy as well as shop owners as you would basically be prospecting for them. Don’t settle!

That sucks I'm sorry to hear that. It sounds like he low-balled you so he can make money off of your sweat. I just gave up putting applications in. for over 30 years I've been self-employed now I know why. I've never fired myself I've never laid myself off and I've never given myself a cut in pay. The buck stops here
