Jennifer- bartender and server.
For the last year I have worked as a server. Even though I have 15 years bartender experience. I'm afraid employers will think my experience is too old, that I have forgotten how to tend bar. That's so not true! I was serving craft beers 20 years ago. Muddling fruit and adding touches of unusual liqueurs is established experience for me. So is old school bartending-- Singapore Slings, Grasshoppers, etc.- I love that stuff. However, I'm afraid employers never get past the recent server part. Am I right?

Hi Jennifer,
I understand your concerns but think you have awesome experience. Check out this story: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/28/nyregion/an-old-fashioned-bartender-known-for-his-pour-and-his-personality.html?_r=2 I know this doesn't talk to the server part of your experience but it does talk to age.

Hi Jennifer,
Thanks for posting to Jobcase!
You have such a great experience bartending that any employer would be crazy to overlook you! Your problem might be in how you're branding yourself, whether on your resume or just during interviews with employers. If your strength can be found in bartending, then make sure your resume just focuses on that, with a brief summary about your serving experience. Include how passionate you are about bartending in your summary.
When meeting with employers, tell them that you were ahead of the game with regards to craft beers and unusual drinks. They'll want to work with someone who's ahead of the trends.
What does everyone else think?
Thank you!
