Hi Malissa: Thanks for posting on Jobcase! I would suggest to look into temp agencies to help with the gap in your work history. To start your job search process, double-click the Jobs and Companies button at the top of the page and enter the type of job role you're looking for and location. Click on the blue search button to see everyone who's hiring. If you see anything that looks interesting, just click the job title and follow the instructions to apply. To help you get better results, upload your resume and update your profile. If you need help with experience , volunteering counts.
Hi Malissa, Sorry to hear about your divorce. :( That's tough for anyone to go through, especially if you're also trying to get back into the workforce.
Let me tell you from experience ~ if you can raise a few kids (or more!), you CAN find a great position and DO A GREAT JOB!! The first thing to do is create a game plan: try to think of any experience you may have gotten from any volunteering/parent-teacher-organization/event planning/church work and get that into your profile. It ALL COUNTS as experience. Second, listen to Esther below... reach out to temp agencies and work with them to find a temporary position. (Ask your friends & family for suggestions of good ones in your area.) Having a temp job will get you used to being back in the working world.
Finally, set small goals for yourself that will get you to the position you're striving to find. Talk to lots of people. Ask them to connect you with other people... and keep going until you find something good. It may take a while (longer than you think) and it might feel uncomfortable at first. You can't be modest - sell your skills as well as you can by identifying what 'problem' an employer is having - and be able to explain why YOU can help them with the problem. (Then, after building more skills, get out there again & sell skills some more until you get that job.) At a certain level, job hunting is a numbers game... the more lines in the water, the better.
And check back in with us, ok? We're here to help each other and we'll learn from what you have to say. Best of luck! Marijoy
