Illegal?
My boss found out I had an interview yesterday. If he fires me for looking for anot her job is that illegal?

Minimum this will be illegal regarding of any policy they may have in their contract unless they spoke to you and there were neutral witnesses at the moment you got hired and signed your contract. What you did is the same as any human beings do with their auto insurance, shop for a better option and then go to your current company and negotiate. If your boss acts different at you is another point against itself. Unless any worker is a slave no boss has the authority to do anything that will make you feel uncomfortable at work. And in case they ask you to re-sign r quit, don't do that. That will make you look like you didn't want to work there anymore, and in case you don't get the other job , you can't apply for unemployment because it was not a forced decision and you just quit their job. The question here is , How he/she found out about your interview? .

Unfortunately Georgia is a right to work state, meaning employers really do not have to have a reason to fire you. If you can prove race, gender, age, or religious discrimination then, yes, you have a case. The employer wants to know you will be loyal to them and if In interview situation do not tell anyone about it and politily ask the new place of employment to hold off on contacting them till last minute and also have them inform you when they do so you can prep the old place and then also be ready for actions against you

They can't fire you for that reason. But if they do fire you it will be there lost and I am sure that you will definitely find something better

How did your boss find out that you had an interview

It's not illegal but it's not legal either. Depending on what your state your working in, be it an "At Will" state, your boss can terminate your working relationship with the company at any time and for no reason. With that being said, your boss could find out that you are looking for another job. If he is the kind of person who would fire you for looking for another job or even attending a job interview elsewhere, then take the initiative and go tell him yourself about attending an interview or seeking employment. This will insure you in two ways. First, you are taking the power out of it by getting the news to him straight from the horse.s mouth. This way, whenever anybody brings this information to him by way of gossip or behind your back, he will have already heard about it from you, so that will squash any mixed messages or harmful gossipers that might be trying to stick their busy bodied noses into your business. Second, it makes it so your boss can not fire for this reason. He can terminate you for any reason at any time, however,; this is not one of them. And by you informing your boss that you are seeking employment elsewhere, places him in the position of either 1. Asking you why and seeing if there is anything he can do to perhaps change your mind and stay. 2, There is no way your boss will terminate you right after you tell him this be it makes him look like an asshole. 3. He will respect you for giving him advance notice of your leaving allowing him ample time to get a replacement and manage his team properly. It just makes good sense to always remain above board with all matters where your employment is concerned. You will never have to be in fear or worry if you and your boss stay in communication about things. And no one else will have the power to harm you with gossip and untrue watercooler spun versions of your situation. And you will sleep better knowing that you have been completely upfront and honest about all things in your work matter, and so will your boss.

No thata not illigal if the other job offers u more money then I would take it but I would give ur job a 2 weeks notice then after 2 weeks start ur other job GOOD LUCK

Hello if it was me I'll still look for another job... And if it's paying more go for it Aubrey

unfortunately AZ Is a "right-to-work" state... only meaning, you BOTH can terminate employment "at-will"!!! (in other words, you can quit or get fired for ANY reasons....mutualy! (you don't like the color they wore...etc?!)

Well the one reason you are looking for another job could be that you are not happy with your present job, and you want to move on to greener pastures. If I was your boss and would come to know that you are looking for another job, for sure I would call you into the conference room and talk things over, and find out why you are not happy with your present job.
Also, don't forget you need to let them know your leaving at least 2 weeks before ( I recommend you 3-4 weeks ) and try to leave without closing the door. I meant , never leave any job without their knowledge , because in the future you don't know if you will need them , the same for them. I'm telling you by my own experience, and it feels great knowing they still need you and will even pay you more ,just to get your services back. Hope this helps.
