Take the hit?

I’ve been going on interview after interview, but all I hear is that I’m too qualified for all the jobs I’m applying for. It’s getting to the point where I seriously think I should dumb down my resume just so employers give me the time of day. Is this good advice, or am I just being desperate?

Don't do that to yourself, they believe that you can do what you can do. Keep going.

Customizing your resume to only include relevant info to the job you are applying, is not dumbing it down. Its mearly letting the employers softwear scan the buzz words out of the add you are mirroring to give you a better shot at the job you really want.

I am right there with you. I have come to hate the term "over qualified". I sometimes think it also means too old. It is disheartening. But you have to stand strong. Best of luck.

I'm not a big fan of dumbing down your talents or your education.

I am in the same boat, and think it's worth a try. I have no dog in this fight; I don't do resume writing, etc. I simplified my resume and it worked for me. I got a job in a growing company in sales/account work instead of marketing. Better to have some job than no job in this economy.

You might have to start applying for jobs you actually qualify for, because some companies are afraid that if they hire you, and a job comes along that you do qualify for, you will leave.

It's worth a try..I have been told the same thing, but I am proud of my 3 degrees and experience...I think when employers say that to you sometimes they mean they are less educated or less experienced than you and might feel threatened. I would answer back I am trying to get my foot in the door and I am not allowed about the money...

hi Shane and god bless you. do not change your resume, whats on that paper is who you are right now in life, but what i would tell you to do is try to change the way you talk and answer the question on the interview. the best way to do this is by having mock interviews with people who are in your career this way you are prepared for the question. good luck and god bless

Shane do not dumb yourself down.. That would be a disservice to yourself and get you no where fast.. What if they found out you pretended to be less qualified and they pass you over for another job that may pay more and give you more responsibility.? That wili get you no where fast. Show off your smarts, you earned them. Good luck, Lisa Renwick
