WHY???
Why is it so hard for elders like myself. To find a job in our respected feilds of work..i mean we have the experience. Don't really need training... if i don't land a job in a couple of weeks I'll be homeless.. Can't go through that again in my life.

Hey Tyrone Have you tried Meals on wheels or city harvest.

I feel same way I in same position.

I wish I knew the answer to that. I'm in the same boat myself.

We live in a time where age matters. It's no longer your skills or job experiences but how you look, do have wrinkles, grey hair or a slouching posture? Employers should insist on job searchers putting their age on the Resume, this way they can form their opinion before you waste your time waiting for an interview. It's discrimination although they pretend there is no age discrimination. My mind is younger than a teenager. I know more than college grads in my field, But, we never get a chance. I never judge anyone who commit suicide. Rejection helps. But I say Tyrone and anyone reading this, hold your head up high ! Stay strong and keep in touch with God !! He knows where your next job is !!

Hey Tyrone, do not give up. Start by thanking GOD , for his goodness. Check out AARP.COM.

I am in the job market at 55 too and instead of resorting to and blaming my shortcomings in my job search on my age, i have learned that to get the job, you need to show true passion in why you are the right candidate for a given position. This means selling yourself on your knowledge of the company, the position, provide examples and how and why you will fit in and how your qualifications, experience and relevant achievements make you the right candidate for the job your are seeking. These days its about selling your self to prospective employers and reaching out to your network. best of luck

It's probably the idea that you are ready to retire, and good companies don't want to have to pay a pension for a person that is ready to retire, I guess. Have you tried Easter Seals? They get jobs for older persons 55 and up. Apply for affordable housing and also for public assistance. Pray to God; He will make a way. Also, do a google search for jobs for order adults. I understand how you feel. I'm in the same boat.

Being an adjunct professor at your local community college, or university (perhaps your alma mater?), will put your decades of experience and career expertise to valuable use. One great area of introduction is becoming a visiting speaker to an academic club, or fraternal association that are always on the lookout for traveling lecturers. Who knows, connecting with college lecturers may lead to other professional connections that will direct you to your next career. Good luck in your endeavors!!
